        ODL Support Services through use of Innovation and Technology: A case study of Indira Gandhi National Open University Library

        Abstract
        Innovation and Technology has tremendously changed the Library operations as well as the way services delivered for Open Distance Learning System. The ODL Libraries have become online digital libraries with having access from anywhere anytime 24 X 7. The paper examines the case of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Library and Documentation Division which is obtaining its objective of reaching the unreached. To reach the millions of IGNOU Learners, faculty, staff and other users across the globe has not been an easy task for IGNOU Library. The technology innovation was the only solution to be immensely used in IGNOU Library to satisfy the diverse information needs. IGNOU Library has developed Web Portal with access management and authentication having integrated platform for library related and other diversified library related services as E-Library. The IGNOU Library is using various tools like Federated Searches, Discovery Solutions, A to Z Listing of resources, providing remote access to e- resources which will be discussed in detail in the paper. At present the e-collection of IGNOU Central library has been made accessible to all regional centres through out the country and its learners. The e-resources of library include 60 prominent databases subscribed from the world class publishers with about 75000 e-journals and 1711 e-books in addition to a plethora of open access e-resources listed on IGNOU Library Website. The Library is supporting all innovations by using open access softwares for providing various services like dspace for repositories and koha open software for Library Management System. In addition to it, the paper will also discuss IGNOU Library conventional services like OPAC, User Services, Reference Service, Bibliographic Service, Current Awareness Service, Document Delivery, Inter-library loan and many others provided to its users. The paper will also discuss various new innovative and technological initiatives taken for reaching its users like web based information literacy tutorials, implementing library 2.0 and interacting through social networking and reaching its clients from mobile smart phones and modern gadgets. // Paper ID: 453
