        Abstract
This is a Portuguese translation of the original Kavya book, which contains stories collected by the Mann Deshi Foundation in India, one of COL’s partner organisations. The stories give us a look into the lives of girls, parents and community members who are responding to age-old traditions and cultures that preclude girls from having the right to make decisions about their own lives. // This book contains stories collected by the Mann Deshi Foundation in India, one of COL’s partner organisations. The stories give us a look into the lives of girls, parents and community members who are responding to age-old traditions and cultures that preclude girls from having the right to make decisions about their own lives. It directly addresses the challenges girls are facing in patriarchal communities and their struggles to liberate themselves. It speaks about their determination to find themselves and to be educated. The stories are based in one country, but they are relevant to girls all around the world who are constrained by the limitations imposed by similar cultures and traditions. // English version also available.
