- ItemOpen AccessCOL in the Commonwealth: 2003-2006 Country Reports(2006) Commonwealth of LearningIntended as a companion text to Learning for Development, the Commonwealth of Learning’s ThreeYear Plan for 2006-2009, this compendium COL in the Commonwealth 2003-2006 reviews COL’s work over the last triennium country by country. These two documents provide the starting point for the Country Action Plans that will guide COL’s future activities in each country and ensure their consistency with the national priorities of governments. It has been more than a decade since COL has attempted such a detailed report on its work in each Member State. I apologise for any inconsistencies of presentation in this first version and invite feedback from readers so that we may make it even more useful in future. // These country reviews, which cover all Commonwealth countries except Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, are grouped under four regions: Africa (and the Mediterranean), Asia, Caribbean and Pacific.

The objectives of the meeting were to: 1) Review the progress on COL’s Country Action Plans 2006-2009 for each participating country; 2) Obtain feedback on COL’s planning process and concrete inputs for the 2009-2012 Three-Year Plan; and 3) Provide a platform for networking and future collaboration among Focal Points and COL staff.

The objectives of the meeting were to: 1) Review the mid-term progress on COL’s Country Action Plans 2006-2009; 2) Obtain feedback on COL’s planning process and concrete inputs for the 2009-2012 TYP; 3) Provide a platform for networking and future collaboration among Focal Points and COL staff; and 4) Provide an important professional development opportunity for the Focal Points and COL staff.

- ItemOpen AccessReport on the Regional Focal Points Meeting: Caribbean(2011-03)The Focal Point Meeting for the Caribbean took place in Trinidad & Tobago from 28 - 30 March 2011. Sir John Daniel and Prof Asha Kanwar gave the general background on COL and its programme before Prof Madhulika Kaushik and Trudi van Wyk organised discussions on the Education and Livelihoods and Health sectors respectively. The inaugural address by Honorable Minister of MSTTE resonated very well with COL's developmental agenda in the region and gave insightful inputs on mobilising learning for prosperity and development in the region and the potential for working with COL for fostering collaboration with other institutions and regions for accelerating development in the Caribbean.
- ItemOpen AccessReport on the Regional Focal Points Meeting: Africa and the Mediterranean(2011-05)The Focal Points meeting for the Africa and Mediterranean region was held in Mauritius from 19 – 21 May 2011. Sir John Daniel and Prof Asha Kanwar gave the general background on COL and its programme before Dr Abdurrahman Umar and Alison Mead Richardson organised discussions on the Education and Livelihoods and Health sectors respectively. During his opening address, Dr the Hon. Minister Rajesh Jeetah, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology gave the background to the economic and social development of Mauritius since Independence and linked their remarkable growth to the provision of free basic education.
- ItemOpen AccessCOL in the Commonwealth: 2009–2012 Country Reports(2012) Commonwealth of LearningThe production of COL in the Commonwealth 2009-2012 has been an intense collective effort. COL’s advanced knowledge management systems have enabled us to exploit fully the information contained in the numerous event Report prepared by staff as they work and travel. I express particular gratitude to Jasmine Lee, for diligently updating the country profiles that provided the raw material for these reviews, and to Karen Speirs, who brought this volume together in an impressively efficient and expeditious manner.

The meeting was attended by 13 Focal Points from all 12 Caribbean Commonwealth countries.

Focal Points from 17 countries in Africa and the Mediterranean participated in the meeting. The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research & Technology and the Open University of Mauritius supported COL in organising the workshop.

A total of 16 persons including Focal Points from six countries in Asia attended this meeting.
