- ItemOpen AccessBasic Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technology: A Flexible Learning Course(2017-07) Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT)The aim of this course is to equip you with skills on how to design and install home solar systems. In Kenya, Solar PV systems have a vibrant market. Unfortunately, the sector does not have enough trained and experienced practitioners who can design and install systems. It is dominated by non-specialist technician who have no solar PV training. As a result, most solar systems installed in the country perform poorly and eventually fail, leading to the widespread perception in the market that solar systems do not work. Therefore, the goal of this course is to improve access to training and produce professional technicians in Solar PV System. // This technician course is designed for practicing electricians who have basic skills in electrical, mechanical or electronics field. The course lays emphasis on developing practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in basic solar PV technology, products and systems.

The curriculum at the schooling level is slow to change, but as students will learn, climate change is a very real and very important challenge – perhaps the MOST important challenge. As an open scholar and a young adult, targeted students have a vested interest in seeking to understand and mitigate the impact of climate change, since it affects their present and also their future. As open scholars, they also get to choose what they want to learn, when they want to learn and how they want to learn. They can work through the course content alone or with others with whom they can share ideas. They can work entirely offline or entirely online or in blended mode if their local open school provides such an option.

There are six modules in this programme. The main content is hosted on the mooKIT platform and you will be guided on how to access the materials. Face to face sessions will be organised as per timetable issued by GRF. Each module has a different tutor/ team and you will be expected to interact with them through the forums or through any other channel of communication specified by the tutors.
