- ItemOpen AccessEvaluation study: CEMCA Facilitation of Community Radio in Bangladesh(2011) Chanda, IpshitaCEMCA has been playing a catalytic role in preparation of different organisations across Bangladesh for initiating and fostering the Community Radio movement in Bangladesh through training and awareness building in collaboration with local nodal agencies. Rupantar (a development organisation contributing to mainstream development processes, using theatre and other local popular forms in Bangladesh) was identified as the lead partner in 2009 and has collaborated with CEMCA in coordinating the organsations in Bangladesh.
- ItemOpen AccessEvaluation study: Community Radio Awareness Programmes of CEMCA(2011) Venkaiah, VThe journey of Community Radio (CR) service has so far completed over 40 long years throughout the world covering nations like Australia, UK, USA, Canada and other countries. But in India the expansion is of recent origin i.e. seven years from the first installation at Anna University in 2004. Currently, there are 113 stations functioning in 20 States and 2 Union Territories in India. The Letters of Intent(LOI) were issued to 350 agencies and 500 applications seeking permission for CR are under process. Some more States and Union Territories are yet to enter this field. Hence, there is a need to enhance the awareness level of people about this powerful medium.
- ItemOpen AccessImmune India through Community Radio(2021) Mathew, Nittin Paul; Sharma, Monica; Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA)The Ministry of AYUSH engaged Community Radio Stations to connect to the community for its Immunity Campaign. CEMCA supported the Ministry in this campaign. The Immunity Campaign was implemented in 25 CRS located in the country’s rural areas to promote awareness about AYUSH and beneficial effects of building immunity. Through this campaign, more than 18,00,000 community members were reached who belonged to rural, tribal and semi-urban areas in the project site. A survey of more than 13,000 people found that the majority were not aware of the MOA and its practices.

India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has simplified the process for obtaining a license, encouraging an increased number of community radio stations. This research examines the innovative practices of Indian community radio stations and identifies areas for possible innovations in the sector.

- ItemOpen AccessPhukusi la Moyo - a participatory educational radio programme about maternal and child health(2011) Wood, Cathryn EPhukusi la Moyo (literally Bag of Life) is a radio programme that has arisen as a result of a collaborative effort between the MaiMwana Project, Mudzi Wathu Community Radio Station, the District Health Office, and women’s groups (established by MaiMwana in 2005), that aims to improve maternal and child health. Key characteristics of the programme are: • A collaborative approach, covering both design and operation, among subject experts (MaiMwana and the health office) and media; • The combination of on-air programming (learning content) with off air learner support, through an extensive network of women’s groups or radio listening clubs; • A high degree of participation in the programme, both from learners (pregnant women and mothers) and health care providers; • Local support for the programme, in particular the District Health Office, but also the MaiMwana project and Mudzi Wathu Community Radio.

- ItemOpen AccessYoga for Well-being Through Community Radio Stations(2021-08) Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA)The Yoga Campaign was CEMCA’s collaborative project with the Ministry of AYUSH along with MDNIY. It was a build-up leading to the International Day of Yoga 2021. 125 Community Radio Stations were chosen as the appropriate tool for the campaign as they are a great means to reach out to the rural areas of the country. MDNIY developed a course named the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) to help people get an understanding of Yoga and learn more about its philosophies and practices.
