It was originally written as part of the Pacific Basic Trades Training programme. It has been contextualised for Tuvalu by local teachers to meet the needs of school leavers and community groups who have limited knowledge or experience of concrete work. Specifically, the course covers the following four modules: Choosing concrete, Mix and lay concrete, Introduction to blocks, and Build with blocks.

PublicationIntroduction to Bookkeeping: A Flexible Learning Course( 2017-06) Ginigoada Bisnis Foundation ; Mutero, JoanThis is a nonformal course to introduce adult learners to bookkeeping. It was developed by Robert Evah, Training Manager at the Ginigoada Bisnis Foundation in Papua New Guinea. It provides learners with fundamentals of bookkeeping and accounting through eight units. The eight units are the following: Nature of Accounting, Accounting Principles and Concepts, Accounting System Part 1, Accounting System Part 2, Depreciation, Payroll Accounting, Petty Cash, and Bank Reconciliation.

PublicationLiteracy and Numeracy for Basic Trades( 2015-08)In response to requests from the small island states of the Pacific region, COL, working in partnership with the Pacific Association of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (PATVET) produced a series of courses titled Basic Trade for Small Island Nations. This series provided the resources to teach people in remote communities the basic trade skills for working with timber, concrete and small engines. The series can be found on this link. In order to assist with literacy development to aid in the full utilisation of these resources, COL, working with the Oloamanu Centre of the National University of Samoa and with the support of PATVET, developed a course on basic vocational literacy and numeracy for basic trades. Educators from six Pacific Island nations were involved in the course writing. The course consists of the following five modules: 1. Building vocabulary // 2. Listening and speaking // 3. Reading and understanding // 5. Numeracy // Each module contains a student workbook and a tutor guide. A guide for managers is also made available, along with audio content to support learning. The audio content was produced by the Communications Team at the National University of Samoa.

It is intended for school leavers and community groups who have limited knowledge or experience working on small engines. // It helps students to: Understand how engines work; Understand the major parts of an engine and what they do; Apply preventative maintenance; Carry out basic routine servicing jobs; Know their limits - what they should NOT try to do; Identify simple faults; Use basic tools. // Students will work with engines, materials and tools that are available locally. The focus of this course is on outboard engines for small boats, but the theory and practical maintenance apply to most other uses for small engines – such as mowers, brush-cutters and generators. // Includes Tutor Guide and Student Workbook // Small engine user maintenance is a part of the Pacific programme of Basic Trades training for small island nations. A programme initiated and supported by the Pacific Association for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (PATVET) and the Commonwealth of Learning.

It is intended for school leavers and community groups who have limited knowledge or experience of concrete work. // It helps students to: think about the type and quantity of materials needed for a job; plan and follow the steps to mix and lay concrete; plan and construct a wall made from concrete blocks; use simple tools. // Students will work with materials and tools that are available locally to carry out basic concrete and block projects. // Students who complete this course may be able to work on simple projects on their own. They will still need to work under supervision for more complex concrete or block construction — such as those involving structural work, steel reinforcing, safety or compliance with building standards. // Working with Concrete is a part of the Pacific programme of Basic Trades training for small island nations. // This programme was initiated and supported by the Pacific Association for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (PATVET) and the Commonwealth of Learning. // Includes Tutor Guide, Student Workbook, and Video. Video download is available as .iso file for creating/burning a new copy of the DVD. Special software eg Roxio Easy CD Creator is required to open the .iso files.
