Abstract
Open and Distance Learning encounters various student support related issues especially when dealing with large numbers. An ICT intervention is inevitable to connect all the stakeholders and facilitate the distance learners while delivering the academic programmes. Vedyadhara- an Open (e) learning environment (VOLE), created by Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning (ACIIL) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is an e-learning support in a framework that is aligned with its system of schools of studies, program coordinators, regional services, study centres, counselors and students who happen to form the list of stakeholders and are spread out over vast geography. This framework has been used to facilitate administrative and academic matters of the students from the entry to exit in a Post Graduate Diploma programme. The disciplined social networking- an inherent feature of this powerful open e-learning framework has been successful in alleviating the fear of isolation, one of the significant reasons of attrition. // A feedback from the first cohort of the P G Diploma programme that included all the 129 registered students, the counsellors and the coordinators involved with the batch revealed motivating results towards the usage of the VOLE framework right from the time of planning for the registration till the completion of the programme. As an early initiative, the framework was used for the student support related activities however, a lot is to be still accomplished through this to make it move towards a community driven e-learning environment. This would bring about a change in course management by the intervention of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) practices, in the existing ODL practices, taking the benefit of the growing volume of web-based rich content and resources. // Paper ID: 79
