Abstract
PCF10 Sub-theme: Inspiring Innovations // The past decade has seen more learning institutions adopt MOOCs towards improved course delivery, student engagement, and access to education. Facilitation remains a critical factor in the success of online learning as learners in disparate locations and with varying technology infrastructure need to be supported to achieve both their individual and collaborative goals in a MOOC. This paper reports on an innovative approach in the co-creation and facilitation of two cybersecurity MOOCs supported by the Commonwealth of Learning. We report on the utilisation of the MOOC platform and video conferencing technologies for support and engagement with participants. Besides the in-built learning analytics tools on the platform, we discuss other technologies that were integrated for more efficient data collection and qualitative analysis of feedback from participants. To ensure that participants could access and implement the security solutions covered in the course, we present ways in which they harnessed native capabilities within their existing operating systems (OS) to complete learning tasks. Finally, the use of free and open-source software is explored for various use cases such as data recovery, secure communication, and emerging technologies. The paper provides an innovative approach to incorporating technology affordances for learner-centred experiences in a MOOC. // Paper ID 1951
