Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is rooted in the integration of networked technologies to facilitate automation with the onset of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things being used in our everyday lives. The application of such automation is also found in the education sector. Widespread customisation of learning, automated assessment, digitization and portability of student records, are some examples of the 4IR appearing in education. This publication addresses these opportunities with an effort to sensitise readers to ideas, approaches and challenges of integration of 4IR technologies into learning modalities. Drawing on a literature review and interview data from leading AI experts, the publication serves to offer recommendations for countries at all stages of development with some focus on the role of 4IR in education for sustainable development.
