dc.description.abstract | In order to equipped teachers of secondary schools and any other persons who will be involved in teaching and facilitating duties in the National Open School of Trinidad and Tobago (NOSTT), it is imperative that training modules be develop using a professional development format on an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) platform. At present, instructional design strategies for Open School facilitation in Trinidad and Tobago requires that those individuals undergo face-to-face training by NOSTT. The proposed initiative is essential because it is unattainable to involve teachers in designed face-to-face sessions during the school term and after school at convenient locations. Teachers are not expected to be out of their classrooms for such long periods of time and the amount of training needed can be easily and satisfactorily achieved using ODL sessions. The projected model, A Pedagogical Model using Professional-development to Train Teachers in ODL Strategies (PMP2TOS), is intended to provide teachers with the knowledge and skills to ensure that Education for All (EFA) is achieved under the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) as purported by UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago; and this solely through distance education. The training is projected to last twelve (12) weeks and is based on the learning theory of constructivism which necessitates student-centered learning. The teaching modalities will include wikis, blogs, and synchronous Skype conferencing. The use of MOODLE as a Learning Management medium will be utilized. A main feature of PMP2TOS will be the inclusion of 21st century skills in the training. The topics to be integrated will comprise of communication skills, cooperative and collaborative learning, high-order thinking skills, self-efficacy and the infusion of ICT in teaching and learning. // Paper ID: 36 | en_US |
