Abstract

This report presents data from a baseline survey that was commissioned by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to gather current information on the status of open and distance learning (ODL) in Kenya vital to the planning of projects and initiatives that support the use of ODL within the country. Through this survey, COL aimed to have a deep and clear picture of the current developments as a critical means of ensuring that proposed projects are conceptualised based on an accurate picture of the country context. // This report provides a brief context of Kenya’s ODL development in terms of national and institutional policies in ODL, access and success in higher education, including reaching the disadvantaged in rural and urban slums. It presents an assessment of institutional missions and mandates and the extent to which they have been achieved through ODL.
