President’s Quarterly Progress Report: July − September 2008
On the nomination of the Secretary-General, the Board has appointed His Excellency, the Honourable Burchell Whiteman, O.J., as Chair for an initial term of three years. Currently Jamaica’s High Commissioner in London, he began his professional career in education more than 40 years ago as a teacher and subsequently as school principal. He joined the Jamaican cabinet in 1992 and distinguished himself as a Minister of Education, Youth and Culture for ten years before becoming Minister of Information and Leader of Government Business in the Senate until 2006. In 2002, he was appointed as the Regional Representative for the Caribbean on the COL Board of Governors and has served as Acting Chair since 2007. In 2004, he was named an Honorary Fellow of COL.
